Location: 711 Bestgate Road, Suite 300, Annapolis, MD 21401 and requires travel throughout Anne Arundel County
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Salary: $18.24 per hour non-certified; $19.39 per hour certified
Benefits: Participation in the County’s group health plan including prescription, dental, and optical, paid holidays and sick leave. Optional deferred compensation program at employee's own expense.

Job Description

Nature of Work: The role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. Serves as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. Must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. A key element that enhances and distinguishes this position is that the candidate appropriately highlights their personal experience of recovery.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalency (GED). Preference will be given to applicants with an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university, especially in the human services field.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must provide personal statement describing what skills and abilities he/she has to offer
  • Must have a minimum of two years of recovery from a substance use or co-occurring disorder. One year acceptable with a letter from a treatment professional who has personal knowledge of the individual
  • Must complete peer specialist core training, peer counselor or comparable training program from a recognized and approved source within 18 months of entry into position
  • Ability to maintain effective peer recovery relationships with clients
  • No current criminal justice system involvement. Considerations: Length of time since last conviction, type of crime
  • Must have own vehicle available for travel
  • Must have a current Maryland driver’s license with a clear driving record
Desired or Preferred Qualifications: Very strong time management, organizational, and written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently and on a team; an understanding of Anne Arundel County resources; proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel and electronic medical records.
