11.5.20 – Weekly Health Update

Last updated: November 12, 2020

This week Anne Arundel County Health Officer Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman discusses:

  • COVID-19 Status Update
  • What We Need to do to Control COVID

Transcript:

Welcome to our weekly health update. Today we’ll provide a COVID status update and talk about what we need to do to control COVID.

We are now in the COVID-19 fall surge. Our case rate is at an all time high of over 15. Hospitalizations are continuing to increase. Deaths are continuing at a high rate, 30 over the past 4 weeks, or over 1 a day. The situation is getting worse in counties throughout the state.

Each of us is responsible to take action to decrease the spread. The basic steps we need to follow are the 3 Ws.

  • Wear a mask
  • Watch your distance
  • Wash your hands

Additionally, there are three ways to change what you’re doing to get control of the virus. This requires a bit of sacrifice that will pay off over the coming months.

  • Stay home when you’re sick
  • Avoid unnecessary activities.
  • Be kind to others during this time of stress

Our health, our schools and our economy may seem like they are in competition but they aren’t. The better control we have over the virus, the more easily we can open schools and businesses. Do your part.

Remember, stay safe, be kind to yourself and others, and mask up. We will see you next week.
