PLEASE NOTE: The employee may be occasionally assigned to perform backup office clerical duties for the School Health Services office located at 3 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401, or other School Health Services locations during normal business hours. The employee must have transportation available to report to the Annapolis work site or other School Health Services locations at the beginning of the work day or during the work day on short notice. The employee will be reimbursed per Department of Health policies for travel expenses required to perform backup office duties.
Salary: $17.90 per hour
Benefits: Participation in the county’s group health plan (including dental, prescription and optical), paid holidays, and annual and sick leave. The selected employee may also participate in the county’s deferred compensation program at his or her own expense.
Nature of Work: Under the direct supervision of the administrative aide for the Bureau of School Health and Support, the employee will provide secretarial support for the School Health Services director of Nursing, School Health deputy director of Nursing, three School Health Nursing program managers, and seven School Health nursing program supervisors. The Bureau of School Health and Support employs more than 300 registered nurses and support staff assigned to health rooms in 128 Anne Arundel County Public School buildings, serving more than 85,000 students.
Specific duties for this position include providing continuous daily telephone coverage for the School Health Services Program; performing special assignments for the School Health Services management team; using advanced software skills to perform office support tasks such as creating forms, flyers and announcements; and maintaining confidential records and files in an organized manner following appropriate record management guidelines.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.
• Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
• Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
Required typing and software proficiency tests – All applicants selected for an interview will be required to demonstrate their ability to accurately type on a keyboard using a personal computer at a minimum of 40 words per minute during an online interview process. Applicants selected for an interview will also be required to pass a software proficiency test to demonstrate their skill level using computer software. Additional information concerning computer hardware requirements for the online interview process and proficiency tests will be provided to applicants who are selected to participate in the interview process.
Desired Qualifications: Experience providing secretarial services for an organization similar in scope and size to the Bureau of School Health and Support. Experience working with the public, including prior training in customer service skills. Experience working with School Health programs and operations, including knowledge of FERPA. Completion of 30 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college with a major in office technology or secretarial science.
