The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will continue to evaluate the safety of reopening the county based on the 12 measures below. The measures capture how Anne Arundel County is progressing on the control of the spread of COVID-19, hospital and testing capacity, contact tracing efforts and health equity.
The health department will update its Reopening Status Report weekly on Tuesdays.
Why are we changing data from Cases by Day-Community to Cases per 100,000?
- This measure will include all COVID-19 cases in Anne Arundel County. Our previous measure was “Cases by Day-Community” which included community cases only and no cases from congregate living facilities (such as assisted living facilities or nursing homes).
- Using new cases per 100,000 per day as a metric allows the Department of Health to compare Anne Arundel County to other jurisdictions (county, state or country) that are also using new cases per 100,000 per day as a metric.
- Cases per 100,000 will be used to determine whether or not it is safe to reopen schools.
Why are we transitioning from Decreasing Days to 7-Day Moving Average for hospital data?
This update allows the Department of Health to show the acute care and ICU census 7-day moving averages on the dashboard and the difference compared to the previous week. The previous hospital measure only showed how many days the acute care/ICU census decreased over the past 14 days, but not what the census was or how it differed from the previous week. This new measure is more detailed and descriptive.
