Annapolis, MD (January 22, 2025) – The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will delay the start of wet season percolation testing this year due to low groundwater levels; however, wet season perc applications are currently being accepted.
Testing will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis once the season begins. Properties located in areas of the county with typically high water table conditions require wet season testing. The highest water table is usually experienced during February, March and April.
To apply for percolation tests, call 410-222-7193 or apply online or download the application at aacounty.org/inspections-and-permits/permits/septic-system-permits/residentialcommercial-perc-test
Currently, monitoring wells in Anne Arundel County indicate groundwater levels are below the average wet season range. These wells are part of a monitoring well network used by the Maryland Department of the Environment to assess groundwater levels. The Department of Health will announce the start of the perc test period once the network wells have groundwater levels acceptable for wet season perc testing.
Testing provides an accurate assessment of a septic system’s ability to work in all seasons. The information provided by site evaluation and perc testing is used to determine the size and type of septic system that can be installed on a specific lot. In some cases, because of adverse soil or groundwater conditions, a property may only be developed when public sewer is available.
