Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. |

Job Description
Nature of Work: Provide peer support services within the Strengthening Familying in Recovery (SFIR) Program. This program is designed as a holistic, community-based intervention that builds upon existing efforts to support individuals with lived experiences related to drug use. SFIR aims to engage, educate, and support pregnant and postpartum women, as well as women with children, in making the necessary life changes to recover from disabling mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders. Provide comprehensive support that strengthens protective factors for families while addressing administrative barriers such as criminal histories, access to financial services, transportation, child care, safety net programs, and job readiness. Encourage lasting recovery for women. Facilitate care and streamline transitions between different parties in the county health care system, ensuring that participants receive appropriate ongoing care. Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED) |
License or Certification: If not certified, must complete the peer support specialist Maryland Addiction and Behavioral-health Professionals Certification Board (MABPCB) training program within 18 months of starting the position. |
Notes: Have a minimum of two years of recovery from a substance use disorder or a co-occurring disorder. Have no current involvement with the criminal justice system. Behavioral Health Services will take into account the time since the last conviction and the type of crime committed. Requires a personal vehicle available for travel and holding a current Maryland driver's license with a clean driving record. |
Desired or Preferred Qualifications: Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work independently and on a team. Excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills. Have an understanding of Anne Arundel County resources. Be proficient with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and electronic health records. Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders. |
