October 20-26 is National Teen Driver Safety Week

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, teen drivers ages 16-19 are nearly three times more likely than drivers aged 20 and older to be in a fatal crash. Lack of experience and driving in poor weather conditions are contributing factors.

What Parents Can Do:

  1. Give your teenager extra practice behind the wheel.
  2. Take driver's education.
  3. Introduce your teenager to driving in all types of road and driving conditions.
  4. Spend time teaching your teenager how to check air pressure, change a tire, check the battery, check oil and transmission fluid, and windshield wiper fluid.
  5. Make sure your teenager's car meets all safety standards.
  6. Teach your child the "Rules of The Road."
  7. Set a good example.
