It's official. Dr. Tonii Gedin took an oath of office administered by the clerk of the court on July 20, 2023. This follows a unanimous vote by Anne Arundel County Council earlier this month.
Dr. Gedin joined the Anne Arundel County Department of Health in May, 2020, as the Deputy Health Officer of Public Health. She brings 16 years of experience, providing strategies for population health, patient care, performance improvement, leadership, risk management, data analysis, compliance implementations, and contract negotiations. She started her career as an ICU nurse before transitioning into Federally Qualified Health Centers, including serving as Chief Quality Officer at Healthcare for the Homeless in Baltimore. Dr. Gedin received her bachelor's in nursing from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, in Greensboro, North Carolina. She holds a masters in community and public health nursing and a doctorate in nursing practice from the University of Maryland.
"I am looking forward to serving the people of Anne Arundel County and improving the health and well-being of our residents. I have dedicated my nursing career to eliminating health disparities and improving health outcomes for those that need it the most," says Gedin. "That work has prepared me to lead this Department. We have work to do to remove barriers to care and I know that the dedicated, compassionate, and hardworking staff at the Department of Health will make that happen."
