NEW! Rapid Testing FAQ click here.
Many of us are familiar with the molecular COVID-19 test, also known as a PCR or viral test, which provides results within a week or sometimes as quickly as 48 hours. Molecular tests detect the genetic material of a current and active virus.
A much quicker test, or rapid test, is now available at select locations. Antigen tests detect specific proteins on the surface of a current and active virus. Although they are less sensitive to the virus than molecular tests, health care providers often use these tests because they can provide same day results. A follow-up molecular (PCR) test may be recommended to confirm results.
The Department of Health offers the rapid test by appointment only on Monday and on Wednesday – Friday at the Baymeadow Clinic in Glen Burnie. To schedule an appointment, click here.
Rapid tests are also provided at the following private locations. Availability of supplies is subject to change. Private providers may have additional charges depending on your insurance.
