To apply for or renew your Pool Operator License, please follow the instructions below:
1. Obtain Required Training:
- NEW Applicants: You must complete a 14-hour initial pool operator training course from an approved provider and obtain a certificate of completion. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. List of MDH Approved Aquatic Operator Courses.
- RENEWALS: You must complete a four-hour pool operator review class and obtain a certificate of completion.
2. Complete the Application:
- Print out the Pool Operator License Application.
- Ensure your email address is completely legible on the application, as renewal notices will be sent via email.
3. Gather Required Documents:
- All Applicants: A printed copy of your certificate of completion from an approved pool operator training course (initial or review, as applicable).
- NEW Applicants: A printed copy of a valid form of identification including your date of birth: driver’s license, learner’s permit, MVA non-driver ID, military ID, passport, or birth certificate.
- RENEWALS: The identification document is not necessary.
4. Prepare Payment:
- The license fee is $60.00.
- Checks and money orders should be made payable to Controller, Anne Arundel County.
- Cash and credit card payments can only be made in person at the Bureau of Environmental Health.
5. Submit Your Application, Documents, and Payment:
You have two options for submitting your application:
- MAIL: Send your completed application, required documents, and $60.00 fee (check or money order) to the following address:

- IN PERSON: Visit the Bureau of Environmental Health for in-person service between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can submit your completed application, required documents, and payment by cash or credit card at this time.
Important Information Regarding License Renewal:
- Your license will expire three years from the date on your training certificate.
- The Department will send out a renewal notice via email before your license expires.
- To renew your license, you will need to attend a pool operator review training and submit a copy of the certificate from that class along with the renewal application and fee.
